I have heard that JD is selling ROP's at cost for about $300. I recently checked on the price for a ROP for a Mitsubishi MT180D from Stull and they said it would be $700 which was $200 below Mitsubishi cost. Is there a ROP for a JD that will fit or get close to fitting a MT180D. For $500 I can do alot of welding.

I just bought and installed a ROPS on my little JD 750 for $250 bucks. It came with all the G11.9 mounting bolts, and a big heavy plate that fits around the PTO shaft. Don't know if you really want to weld/drill/cut on any factory made ROPS, so you can modify it to fit your tractor. The factory ROPS are built to OSHA standards, which means they must be magnafluxed and other things. If you start modifying one, it may violate the design/integrity of the structure. I know you want to save the $500, but how much is your life worth to you? It's up to you, though....Keith ....

This theme seems to be a constant. Get a factory ROPS, and do not modify or add to it. Having been around 4x4's all my life, I do not see what the problem is.Over the years, we have built our own roll bars, cages, mounts. Some have been from scratch, some have been from kits. Off road shops routinely modify roll bars, add cage kits, ect. Just recently, I modified the roll cage in my Jeep so it provides complete protection for the rear passenger compartment, commonly reffered to as a "family cage". I would not buy a Jeep, Land Cruiser, Samurai, ect without beefing up the roll bar to a complete cage system. So how would that differ from beefing up the ROPS on my Kubota B8200, or adding light barckets, ect?The only problem I see is the lack of a roll bar. Like the guys I saw last weekend in a early Jeep Cj2A. No roll bar at all. But, even worse, he had five kids sitting in the back, with no seat belts! Total flippin idiot!This whole thread seems to be more related to who picks up liability than anything else. ....

Robert, are you a certifed welder? Any joe blo can turn on an arc welder and have at it. Do you magnaflux it all when you are done welding?? You are right, a lot of the thinking here centers on liability. With so many lawsuits these days, it is better imho to be on the good side of the law should your or your family ever need to defend yourselves. Suppose you weld up/modify some sort of ROPS, and you let a friend drive the tractor. What happens if they flip it and get killed, and then that persons family wants to sue you? The hotshot lawyer picks up on the shadetree welds, and it's the hotseat for you. It's just in ones best interest to not mess with the safety equipment, imho.Keith ....

Nope, not a certified welder. And Yes, I agree with all you said. No, I have no need to modify my ROPS. If I did, it would be to make a stronger unit that protected more of the tractor.My point is more about how people are extreme about this in regards to tractors, but not so in other facets of the "automotive" area's.I wouldn't have a Jeep, Land cruiser, Samurai, Amigo ect without puting in a front cage. Sure, the factory builds the standard rollbar for all the necessary stress, but without a front cage, the windshield frame crushes in a roll-over. My Jeep has a front cage added to it, as well as having the original roll bar modified so it makes a complete rear cage to protect my 5 year old. And, it has additional mount points added so it doesn't tear out of the body in a roll over.But, to come on to these tractor boards and suggest anything like that and it gets a totally different reception.I grew up around Jeep's and short track stock cars. Most of the time there was no choice but to build our own stuff. A couple of the stock cars hit the wall pretty hard, but the cage always held up. Seen a 4x4 or two go over that would not have held up as well without modifications to the roll bar.Robert ....

Ken, My JD 750 ROPS was bought through Johnson Equipment company in Newberry, SC. The phone is 803-276-3083. They quoted me $275 over the phone, but then only charged me $250 when I picked it up. It took a week to get it in stock, and it came from a dealer or warehouse somewhere in NC.Keith ....
